Are you able to “SUPERCONNECT” with others?

Open Book Review and Discussion based on the book:

SUPERCONNECT: Harnessing the Powers of Networks and the Strength of Weak Links

The book authored by Richard Koch and Greg Lockwood

Tuesday Evening 12.07.10 at 7

Greetings All,

This week we take a look at a book written by two ultra-savvy social media gents that give a decidedly European view of the cyber universe and the real and unrealistic potential of networks. Koch, author of the ever-popular “80/20 Rule” and Lockwood, a venture capitalist who thrives on connectivity. Good news for the careerist and job seekers though as the numbers are tipped in your favor, so too for the entrepreneur looking for customers and/or kindred souls. Motivational in tone, the authors challenge you to be the author of your own success and to raise your networking skills from functional to transcendent.

We will bring the discussion to a Tri-State regional focus by looking at the most powerful and dynamic hubs to connect with locally, not just in terms of job search or business organizations, also social, sports, arts and volunteering opportunities. December may statistically be a lousy month to land a job but it can be an extraordinary time to connect meaningfully with others.

Superconnecting the nodes:

  • Who and what are the networking Superconnectors?
  • Are Superconnectors born or created? Are you one? Do you want to be?
  • Where are the hottest networks?
  • Should your strategy be to focus on a few key networks or dance between a number of networks?
  • How do you seed and harvest your network?
  • Authors of Our Own Success?
  • How do gangs and gamblers leverage social networks to their benefit?
  • Are you in the “node?”
  • Networked society, is it the new reality?

Weak ties provide the bridges over which

innovations cross the boundaries of social groups.

– Mark Granovetter
